Our hostel was called Reggae Mansion, and it’s primary purpose was to host backpackers and partypeople. We slept in a big dorm, in which each person had a little “bunker” with a matrass, a light, two power points, and a little cupboard. The roof of the hostel served as a bar where you could enjoy a barbecue meal for a bit more than 4 euro’s, and which was perfect to party at night. So that’s what we did! A guy from KL took us to the bar street, because he claimed to know the best places to party, but apparently he didn’t.
On Saturday morning we went to the Batu Caves. These existed of the temple cave and the dark cave. In the dark cave, we did a tour in which we saw how caves shape in time, and what kinds of animals it inhabited (bats, spiders, cockroaches, centipedes, and even more bats). The responses by the girls were actually not that bad!
Afterwards, we went into a neighborhood where we had a “banana leaf meal” (in picture). Our guide Marc (one of the students, who happened to live in KL for a couple of years) brought us there, and it was delicious! At night, we tried to enter several sky-bars to enjoy the view over KL at night, but we didn’t manage to get in. Therefore, we returned to the hostel to party, and we went to bar street again afterwards.
On Sunday, we went up the Menara KL Tower to enjoy the view over the city, and after that we went to the Petronas Towers to have a closer look at them. In the evening, half of us took the bus back to Singapore, since our first school day was on Monday.
On Monday morning, I finally started school. I will be studying at the Singapore Management University for the coming 4 months. The school itself is only 14 years old, and everything looks very modern. The university exists of 6 different faculties, and these are all connected with an underground concourse which houses everything you need (e.g. bookstores, a doctor, food). In addition to that, the school has a gym and a rooftop pool which can be used by students.
My time schedule is as follows:
Monday: 8.15 AM – 10.15 PM (3 courses with 1 gap-hour)
Tuesday: 7.00 PM – 10.15 PM (1 course)
Wednesday: 8.15 AM – 11.30 AM (1 course)
Mondays are very busy, but this allows me to have weekend earlier and I can use this time to travel. In the coming months, I will try to explore Indonesia and Malaysia as much as possible. I will keep you updated!
See you!
