06 Oktober 2014 | Singapore, Singapore

From last Wednesday until Friday, mom and Erik came to visit me. Until then, they had travelled Australia for 2 weeks, and they journey ended with me, in Singapore.

On Wednesday, my 11 day holiday started, and it couldn't have started any better! In the evening, I went to the airport to pick up mom and Erik, and for some reason I was actually very nervous. But once they arrived, everything was back to normal again soon. We went to their hotel and talked about their trip and life back home with a couple of beers.

On Thursday I had the opportunity to impress them with my knowledge about Singapore, as I was their tour guide for the day. I first showed them my school and hostel, followed by the Business District and the Marina Bay area. After that, we walked to Gardens by the Bay, and in the late afternoon we decided to watch the sunset from the Observation Deck up the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. The sunset itself wasn't great due to the clouds, but the view over Singapore was really impressive!

On Friday, we went to Pulau Ubin, a Singaporean island. This is one of the few parts of Singapore that has been untouched in the past 60 years, and for that reason the island looked very authentic and still had plenty of nature and tropical forest. Here we rented a mountainvbike to explore the island. It was really nice!

On Saturday we decided to explore the rest of the city. First, we visited Sentosa, where everything's too good to be true. However, after that we visited Little India and Chinatown, where you can see a totally different, though very nice side of Singapore. The streets are messy and the houses look worn-out, and the atmosphere there is totally different and better resembles the atmosphere in other Asian countries. After eating satay on the middle of the street at Lau Pa Sat, surrounded by office buildings, we watched the fountain show at the Marina Bay, and we ended the day with a beer in a cozy street in Chinatown.

On our last day, there wasn't much remarkable left to see in Singapore that we didn't see yet, so we decided to go to the Singapore Zoo. The zoo was really nice, and we were able to spend our last day there nicely. In the evening we had a nice dinner, and then the time came to say goodbye again..

I had 4 amazing days, and saying goodbye wasn't easy, but I'll see them again in 3,5 months!

Today I left to Lombok, Indonesia with a couple of friends, so I've got some distraction again. I'll cover this trip in my blog next week!

Pictures can be seen in the Dutch version of this blog!
